NCM Reach Business Fives Finals
March 2025

At NCM, we believe that a strong, collaborative team is the cornerstone of our success. While we strive for excellence in our work, we also understand the importance of building relationships and fostering camaraderie outside of the office. This is why we are proud to share our success at the recent Business Fives Football Tournament held here in Edinburgh. It was an event that not only showcased the competitive nature of our company but also highlighted our commitment to teamwork, wellness and having a great time. The tournament consisted of 26 companies each fielding their own football team to play in a round robin style tournament with playoffs at the end.
At the start of the tournament, we had an immediate wake up call. Down 2-0 in the first 30 seconds of game one, it felt like we had a long day ahead of us. Contrary to that belief, we ended up scoring two goals to tie that game and win the next three games to go to the top of our group. After an interesting start and a great showing of perseverance and determination from the team, we headed into the quarter finals. If we got into the semi-finals, we would qualify for the all UK tournament in Leeds. The pressure was on all of us to leave it all on the field. It did not help that the rain and wind made it seem like we were playing in a tornado, but we fought on and ended up winning the quarter finals, storming forward and winning the semi-finals in a sudden death penalty shootout. In the finals we fell to Scottish Water but we put up a great fight and had a great time.
The experience was a great opportunity not just for football but for employees to network and interact with colleagues from different areas of the business in a fun, relaxed environment. The day was filled with high-energy matches, some intense moments, and, of course, plenty of laughter. From strategic plays to well-timed passes, the event proved to be a great platform for showcasing both individual talent and grit of colleagues. The tournament was followed by a casual gathering, where everyone could unwind and ask questions to Marvin Bartley, an ex-professional football player who provided great insights and laughs.
At NCM we understand that a healthy work-life balance is essential for long-term success and employee well-being. Whether it’s through sports, social events or team-building activities, we prioritise well-being and balance. This tournament was a celebration of teamwork, healthy competition, and the lasting bonds we continue to build here at NCM. Now, onto Leeds!
