NCM Reach New Heights
On the last weekend in June, 16 brave souls from NCM travelled north to Fort William to the foot of Ben Nevis with the aim of summiting to raise money for our chosen charity this year – The Muirhead Outreach Project.
With this being the second attempt to climb the UK’s highest mountain (an October attempt called off due to adverse weather conditions), there was a mix of tension and excitement in the air (although arguably this related to the night out in Fort William afterwards). Within the group, there was a variety of climbing experience from virtual mountain goats to Munro debutants, but everyone brought the same hunger to climb to the peak standing at an impressive 4,413ft / 1,345m.
Spirits were high on the way up and after over four hours of constant elevation, the whole team reached the summit and were able to enjoy the breathtaking views that Ben Nevis had to offer – well that was the plan anyway! The whole team did reach the top but in true mountaineering fashion, the visibility was constrained significantly by some very large dark clouds. Nevertheless, the team had all achieved the feat of scaling the UK’s tallest mountain and raised over £1,300 for a highly deserving cause. Three Peaks next?
